7 Amazing Uses for Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide is a very simple substance to wrap your head around: it’s only a water molecule (H202) with an additional oxygen molecule.  It’s very amazing, but that extra oxygen molecule makes all the difference when understanding hydrogen peroxide’s abilities.  This additional oxygen molecule is just enough to kill off many, if not all, bacteria and germs that it comes in contact with.  Because of this, hydrogen peroxide has become very useful in our daily lives and even preferred as the sole cleaning product at hospitals.  Say goodbye to needing to keep stocking your cabinet full of a variety of cleaning supplies at home, simply purchase that inexpensive bottle of hydrogen peroxide (usually less than $1) and start saving money and feeling better!

Hydrogen Peroxide

1. Clean Your Household Surfaces

Create a 50/50 mix of hydrogen peroxide and water and combine it into a typical spray bottle.  Spray this solution to clean nearly any surface in your house: countertops, appliances, toilets, floors, etc.  Wipe down with a clean towel and you’ll soon have an odorless, germ-free house.  Be sure to only create your 50/50 mix at the time of use because the light will breakdown the hydrogen peroxide’s chemical makeup if it’s out of the brown bottle for too long.

2. Makes Your White Laundry Even Whiter

Pour a cup full of hydrogen peroxide into a washing machine filling with water.  Use this technique only with white laundry, just as what you would do to brighten your clothes with chlorine bleach.  Be careful not to pour the hydrogen peroxide directly onto your clothes because it will discolor your clothes just as bleach does.

3. Removes Canker Sores

Not everyone has the problem of having canker sores in your mouth, but when you do, you’ll be in pain.  Period.  As there are some methods of over-the-counter medications, hydrogen peroxide takes away the problem.  Take a capful (the white cap from the bottle) and swish it around in your mouth until it begins to foam up.  The bubbles are a sign that the hydrogen peroxide is actually cleaning out the bacteria in those sores and sanitizing them to allow for quicker healing.  Repeat multiple times if you feel you haven’t been fully sanitized.

4. A Cost-Effective Tooth Whitener

Pour a capful of 3% strength hydrogen peroxide and swish it around your mouth for five to ten minutes each day.  Just as it does with canker sores, the hydrogen peroxide will kill all of the germs and bacteria that has been built up on your teeth.  I have noticed that this does a better job of removing the excess plaque after brushing than mouthwash does.  Now start saving extra cash because you won’t need to purchase those expensive teeth whitening products!

5. Removes Toenail and Fingernail Fungus

Create your 50/50 mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water and pour into a container.  Soak your toenails or fingernails in the solution every day to remove any harmful fungus that has been building up.

6. Clean Pesticides From Fruits and Veggies

If you don’t purchase organic fruits and veggies, pour a quarter of a cup of hydrogen peroxide into your kitchen sink of cold tap water.  Put your fruits and veggies into your solution and rub them around.  After, rinse off each of the fruits and veggies with clean water.

7. Helps Houseplants Grow Healthier

Combine an ounce of hydrogen peroxide with a cup of water and pour into a spray bottle.  Spray your houseplants with the solution and you’ll soon be reviving those slowly dying houseplants that you may have been neglecting.
